for
General Dental Council
The General Dental Council is the registration and professional conduct body
for all United Kingdom Dentists and Dental Hygienists. Their headquarters in
Wimpole Street, London W1, designed by Sir Hugh Casson in 1960 won a Civc Trust
award.
The Bryant Harvey Partnership was selected to remodel and refurbish the listed
buildings. Careful planning was required to ensure the minimum of disturbance
to the running of the Council during construction.
Each of the five floors has been totally remodelled to include new floor finishes,
ceilings, services, partitions, furniture, IT net-working, new toilets and windows.
The existing double height dining room, fronting Wimpole Mews was remodelled
using movable acoustic walls, allowing flexibility of use for both dining and
seminars.
The final phase of the project included the refurbishment of the Council Chamber, which is located on the lower ground floor of this five storey listed building. The Chamber is now used for meetings, judicial hearings and conferences. The furniture, all designed and made by Martin Grierson, contains a range of highly sophisticated built-in electronic equipment, including the latest interactive computer technology, desktop-screens, wide screens, video wall, electronic voting system, etc.
